Gateway to Himalayan Art at Utah Museum of Fine Arts Feb 15th-28th
Gateway to Himalayan Art introduces the main forms, concepts, meanings, and religious traditions of Himalayan art with objects from the collection of the Rubin Museum of Himalayan Art, New York. A large multimedia map at the start of the exhibition orients viewers to the greater Himalayan region, which encompasses Indian, Nepalese, Bhutanese, and Tibetan cultures as well as interrelated Mongolian and Chinese traditions. Gateway invites exploration of these diverse cultural spheres through exemplary objects presented in three thematic sections: Symbols and Meanings, Materials and Technologies, and Living Practices. It also includes voices from Himalayan artists and contemporaries, along with connections to related digital content to learn more. The exhibition features sculptures, Tibetan scroll paintings (thangkas), ritual implements, medical instruments, and instructional paintings, as well as a stupa and prayer wheel. 10-11PM. 410 Campus Center Drive, Salt Lake City, UT

During Hogle Zoo’s Polar Bear Celebration, you’ll join Rocky Shores keepers for special presentations about resident polar bears Nikita and Neva. Get ready for a PAWS-itively interactive day where you’ll learn about this incredible species through crafts, games, and activities. Polar bear conservation Polar bears are uniquely adapted to life in the Arctic. The polar bear life cycle is almost exclusively tied to sea ice, which is decreasing due to climate change. Polar bears rely on sea ice for hunting, traveling, breeding, and denning. Considered a vulnerable species, polar bears’ single biggest threat is sea ice loss from climate change. Wildlife champions worldwide, including Hogle Zoo and its conservation partner, Polar Bears International, invite you to learn about the Arctic, spread the word about polar bears, and encourage sustainable energy options. 10-2pm 2600 East Sunnyside Avenue, Salt Lake City, UT

The Utah STEM Expo is a free, public event put on yearly to showcase student demonstrations of science technology, engineering, art and math as well as colleges and businesses that are involved in STEM, as well as some of STEM's many exciting uses and applications in our modern, technological lives. K-12 graders from any school are invited to participate as demonstrators.
